Sister Redempta Eilert
Concordia, Kan.
Sister Redempta was born Sept. 8, 1913, in Beloit, Kan. Currently, she lives at the Motherhouse in Concordia. Here she speaks of her ministry, her passion, special interests and hobbies:
I am retired. I do a little GED teaching, tutoring and I am one of the receptionists at the Information Desk. I took charge of the GED Program after Sister Miriam retired in the early 1990s. At first I was kept quite busy but lately other centers serve most of the students. I have had students 15 years old and many much older, one lady being in her 70s. The greatest problem in teaching GED students is motivation for many; the other problem is students have a difficult time fitting studies in with busy work schedules and home responsibilities. I have had some very motivated students who completed the program in record time.
My passion is teaching. After completing 46 years of teaching and administration in the Chemistry Department at Marymount College, I wanted to continue in the field of education after retiring in 1988.
I have several special interests. I am interested in the area of peace and justice and I try to write letters to Congressional leaders regarding these issues. In the past I have enjoyed gardening, but am now able to do very little in this area.
Among my hobbies, I would include crocheting, working puzzles, reading and playing cards. Bridge is my favorite game, but I also enjoy pinochle, pitch and several other games. I try to spend some time nearly every day with our elderly and infirm sisters and of course, I am very mindful of the many intentions requested of the Sisters in our prayer ministry.
