Vowed Sisters
We invite you to consider joining us in our mission as Sisters of St. Joseph of Concordia as a Vowed Member.
Our mission as Sisters of St. Joseph is the purpose for which the Congregation exists: we live and work that all people may be united with God and with one another. It is the mission of Jesus himself, the same mission which continues to unfold in the Church: “that all may be one…” (Constitution of the Sisters of St. Joseph.) The call to religious life continues to be heard in the hearts of women today. Their response is a gift to the Church and to humanity as a whole. We, Sisters of St. Joseph, are committed to women who wish to follow this call, just as we have for 125+ years.
Postulancy… is a yearlong experience during which a woman lives with us in community to acquaint herself more fully with our life. She participates with us in prayer, communal life, meals, finances and ministry. A director, a professed Sister, accompanies her during this time. She participates in classes designed specifically to orient her to life in community.
Novitiate… following the postulancy the woman enters a two-year novitiate. During the first of these years, she continues to discern through prayer and study. In particular, she deepens her understanding of Scripture and studies our Constitution, the vows, our spirit and spirituality. The second year is one of preparation for future ministry.
Temporary Profession… the woman makes a three-year commitment to the Community, professing the vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience. She lives and ministers as a professed Sister, experiencing yet more of our life and continuing to discern and integrate her identity as a woman religious.
