2024 Jubilee ~ Led by the Spirit: Hearts Ablaze with Hope

June 9, 2024, was a day filled with reverence and celebration! The Sisters of St. Joseph gathered to honor nine Jubilarians, including three who are deeply missed, as they had passed away this year. S. Rosemary Foreman, 15 years; S. Pat Lewter,
70 years; S. Margaret Nacke, 70 years. Rest In Peace, dear Sisters.
Jubilee is the celebration recognizing the date that each Sister was received into the Community as a Novice and their many years of service. This years’ Jubilarians were recognized for a span of 15 to 75 years! 60 years of service was recognized for Sisters Loretta Jasper and Vera Meis. Sisters Mary Ann Flax and Carolyn Teter celebrated 70 years, and Sisters Mary Augustine and Doris Marie Flax celebrated 75 years.
Each Jubilee has a theme. The Jubilee Committee consisting of Sisters Ann Ashwood, Janet LeDuc, Mary Savoie, and Marilyn Wall, chose the theme for 2024: Led by the Spirit: Hearts Ablaze with Hope…

As stated by Sister Marilyn Wall, “Years ago, you Jubilarian women ascended the front steps on this Motherhouse; Hearts ablaze with hope…daring to dream…That you would be able to serve God and neighbor as Sisters of St. Joseph. And you did: as teachers, nurses, parish ministers, counselors, advocates among the people of God…responding to needs of all sorts and speaking out against social ills…living among the people and sharing their joys and sorrows.
Hearts ablaze with hope…daring to dream.
Beautiful wrist corsages made by Sister Tiên Thuy were presented to each Jubilarian and will be a keepsake for years to come
After photos were taken, Father Barry Brinkman presided over a special celebratory Mass. Liturgy Musicians offered several gorgeous selections of music, presented by ensemble members Sisters Betty Suther, Agnes Irene Huser, Dian Hall, and Carolyn Juenemann, organist S. Janis Wagner, and guitarist Teresa Hernandez.

Sister Jean Rosemarynoski welcomed the attendees, and CSJ Sisters Doris Marie and Mary Ann Flax presented the offertory gifts. A writing by Sister Ann Ashwood titled, “Prayers of the Faithful,” was read by S. Faye Huelsmann to recognize the Jubilarians.
When Mass ended, it was time for a feast! The tables in the dining room looked elegant. Sisters Janet LeDuc and Janis Wagner set tables with cloth napkins and the table of honor included beautiful blue stemmed glassware. Placemats were adorned with the 2024 Jubilee theme and artwork. Sister Donna Otter made stunning flower arrangements for each table in the overflowing dining room. The celebration was scheduled at the end of the annual June Assembly, so many Sisters were who travelled from other cities and states were present and able to attend.

The kitchen staff, led by Jaime Balthazor served a delicious dinner. Strawberry spinach salad, brisket, shrimp, cheesy potatoes, mixed vegetables, dinner rolls, and even rose-shaped butter pats were paired with wine options, and finished with a choice of a variety of flavors of cheesecake. Dinner was concluded with congratulations and meaningful gifts for each Jubilarian.
The day was one of reminiscing and joy, with hearts ablaze for the past, and the future.
