You did it! CHAMP Challenge reaches $25,000 goal

October 22, 2015 by

We are excited to announce Roberta and Bob Bolducs’ $25,000 CHAMP Challenge has been met!  More than 130 people rose to the challenge of donating a gift to the Sisters of St. Joseph for the first time, or increasing their gift amount to participate in this exciting matching gift campaign.

A big thank you to the Bolducs for their wonderful idea to help spur these additional gifts to the Sisters. We are incredibly grateful  for the kindness and generosity of all those who participated.

(From October 2015)

Little did we know this spring when we launched a special fundraising campaign that we would inspire a CHAMPion — although now that we’ve gotten to know her, we’re pretty sure Roberta Beaudoin Bolduc would groan at that bad pun.

More about that in a minute.

First, let Roberta tell you about herself:

I fell in love with Kansas when my father was stationed at Schilling Air Force Base in Salina in the late 1950s. I graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1961 and then Marymount College (1965), where I majored in Speech and Drama. I continued my studies at the University of Kansas until my marriage to Bob in 1967. We moved to Massachusetts and we’ve been there ever since.

Following my years as a high school teacher, I have been an active community volunteer serving many nonprofit organizations including the Ronald McDonald House of Springfield, the Baystate Health Foundation and Bay Path College, where I have served as Chairmen of the Board of Trustees.

My commitment to Bay Path was inspired by my love for Marymount.  In addition to its coed graduate programs, Bay Path offers a four-year, all-women undergraduate program that serves many first generation students.

I have also pursued my love of golf throughout the years playing competitively as well as serving as a rules official for the United States Golf Association.
Bob is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the Krannert Business School at Purdue University. Following an Army tour in Vietnam, he founded and developed a chain of retail gasoline and convenience stores and real estate in western Massachusetts and northern Connecticut. We have a married daughter, Kathleen, and three grandchildren.

Now back to Roberta as a CHAMPion.

Our spring fundraising appeal played on “March Madness” and was called CHAMP. In it, we asked for help to pay for a small Chair lift in the Nazareth Motherhouse, a Hearing loop to assist those with hearing impairments in the Motherhouse chapel and auditorium, an Assortment of energy-efficient windows, a commercial-grade ice Machine and a garden tractor to help Plow the Motherhouse organic garden.

At the end of the letter, we wrote, “So take a shot! Any gift you make will help us score points on these needed projects.”

And that’s where Roberta Bolduc decided to take us one better. Instead of just a single gift, she is making a CHAMP Challenge of up to $25,000. From now until the end of the year, she and Bob will match any new or increased gift to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Concordia.

Here’s why, in Roberta’s words:

Bob and I are fortunate to have been blessed by the influence of the Sisters of St. Joseph, both in Kansas and in our local diocese of Springfield, Mass.

These wonderful women have devoted their lives to love, service and justice.  The Sisters who taught me in grammar school are part of my earliest and happiest childhood memories. And I am forever grateful for happy years at Sacred Heart and Marymount. We have all been blessed throughout our lives by their vocation and devotion.

As Bob and I celebrated the 50th anniversary of our college graduations, we decided to do something special to say thank you, and so we are creating this CHAMP Challenge.

We hope that by matching new gifts dollar for dollar, others will be spurred to increase their donations to honor the Sisters of St. Joseph of Concordia.

Honestly, we’re honored already, just by Roberta’s kind words! Having friends like her is truly a blessing.

And so now we turn Roberta’s challenge over to all our other friends and supporters.

As always, you can make gifts to the Sisters of St. Joseph by  mail (our mailing address is PO Box 279, Concordia KS 66901), or CLICK HERE to make an online donation.

All new and increased donations from now through Dec. 31 will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $25,000. (And, of course, all gifts to the Sisters are tax deductible.)

Please make sure you write “CHAMP Challenge” on the envelope or on your check (or online, select “CHAMP Challenge” from the drop-down list of designated donations) so we can ensure your gift is doubled.

In the October Messenger we’ll give you an update on how the CHAMP Challenge is doing and how many of you have joined Roberta and Bob as our CHAMPions!

They have truly given us a great gift by launching this challenge, and we are deeply grateful for their generosity.

Thank you, Roberta and Bob, for spurring us on to increase our gift this year. All the items mentioned in your rationale to help update things in the Motherhouse are important to us, too. Please send your e-mail address so we can catch up on the past 50 years. –Mary Jo Turley ’63
