Concordia neighbors plan National Night Out parties

web-2015-NNO-logoThere will be ice cream socials, potlucks and other kinds of parties across Concordia on the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 4, as neighborhoods take part in National Night Out.

More than half a dozen neighborhoods have officially registered to be a part of what’s called “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” and sponsors believe many others are planning events or will hold informal front-yard get-togethers.

Concordia police officers will visit the registered parties to give out free glow necklaces to kids, and to answer questions about neighborhood safety.

And there’s still time to organize a get-together in your neighborhood. To register your gathering, call or email Amanda Jeardoe at 785/243-2113, ext. 1221, or ajeardoe@csjkansas.org.

The neighborhoods listed so far are:

Each location will be marked with a National Night Out yard sign and red, white and blue balloons.

National Night Out is now in its 32nd year, and more than 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide are expected to take part. This is the fifth year Concordia has taken part in the event, which is co-sponsored by the Concordia Police Department and the Concordia Year of Peace Committee.

The idea is for neighbors to come out to block parties, to get to know each other and strengthen neighborhood spirit.
