More than 30 preschoolers stomped, clicked, listened and laughed  Friday morning as Jana Strecker and Tina Brewer read the book “Dancing Feet” in the upstairs playroom at Concordia’s Neighbor to Neighbor.

It was the latest installment of the “Reading with Leaders” storytelling program coordinated by the Sisters of St. Joseph’s Neighborhood Initiatives office and hosted by Neighbor to Neighbor. The program is funded in part with a grant from the Kansas Health Foundation.

The storytelling series for preschoolers (ages 3, 4 and 5) began in September and will continue through May. The next session is Friday, Feb. 15,  at 10 a.m., and the book to be read will be “Hot Rod Hamster.” Each child registered receives a free copy of the book. Advance registration is required, by calling 785-262-4215.

As the readers entertained the children upstairs Friday morning, their parents, grandparents and younger siblings were able to relax with coffee and doughnuts downstairs in the center at 103 E. Sixth St.

After the storytelling time, the children were able to try out with the wide assortment of toys and books  in the upstairs playroom. Before leaving, each child received a copy of the book “Dancing Feet” plus a small bag of snacks.

Here’s the schedule for the rest of the series:

  • Feb. 15, 2013 — “Hot Rod Hamster”
  • March 8, 2013 — “Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day”
  • March 22, 2013 — “The Giving Tree”
  • April 12, 2013 — “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie”
  • April 26 — “Kitty Claus,” read by author T.L. Needham and illustrator Lizzy Dodig
