First ‘Games & Goodies’ provides fun respite this afternoon
As the temperature topped 90 in Concordia this afternoon (July 16), more than two dozen Concordians kept cool with “Games & Goodies” in the Nazareth Motherhouse Auditorium.
The “goodies” portion included an array of soft drinks and popped-on-the-spot popcorn, while the “games” featured a couple of tables of pitch, another two of pinochle, one group of gin rummy players and one table for Yahtzee. A couple of women at yet another table focused on conversation rather than competition.
A number of Sisters of St. Joseph, as well as Motherhouse chaplain Father Jim Hoover, joined in the activities.
Organizer Holly Brown, who is development director for the Sisters of St. Joseph, said she was pleased with the turnout for the first “Games & Goodies” session. “These people will tell other people, and we’ll have more stopping by next week and then the next,” she said.
“Games & Goodies” is set for 2 to 4 p.m. every Thursday through the end of August. There are many other card and board games available, and adults of all ages and all playing abilities are welcome. There is no charge to take part, although donations are always welcome.
Hosted at the Motherhouse, “Games & Goodies” is designed as a fun way to beat the summer heat in the air-conditioned Auditorium, while enjoying some company and friendly competition.
Those who come to play are encouraged to use the new parking lot on the east side of the Motherhouse for easy access to the Auditorium through the east door.
