web-POSTER-GardenOfHopeSignThe fifth growing season for the Concordia Community Garden of Hope will kick off with a gardeners’ meeting early next month.

Those who already have a plot in the community garden, as well as anyone who would like to sign up for one of the available plots, is asked to attend the meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, at the Nazareth Motherhouse. The meeting will be in the Guest Dining Room, so those attending should use the main entrance, on the west side of the building under the portico.

Cecilia Thrash, who coordinates the garden for the Sisters of St. Joseph, said there are a few open plots in the organic garden this year. Gardeners pay $15 for the use of a 12-by-46-foot plot for one growing season.

At the meeting Thrash will review the rules and regulations for gardeners, and ask for volunteers to help with ongoing maintenance and new projects at the garden.

In 2009, the Sisters of St. Joseph donated the use of a half-acre of their Motherhouse property for a community organic garden. The garden opens for planting in the spring, as soon as weather permits, and then closes in the fall after everything is harvested.
