Santa delights kids at annual party

Santa took time out from his busy pre-Christmas schedule to spend an hour Wednesday with the children at Neighbor to Neighbor. Also taking a break from her North Pole duties was one of his elves, who told the excited kids that Saint Nick had swung by earlier to drop off a box of presents.

The annual event at the women’s center in downtown Concordia features a gift for each child plus a holiday luncheon for their parents, grandparents and other caregivers. Each child also has a photo taken with Santa, and the families receive free prints of those pictures.

The “Santa party” is designed specifically for the families that come to Neighbor to Neighbor throughout the year, said Sister Pat McLennon, one of the three Sisters of St. Joseph who operate the center. It’s a special treat for both the children and their families, she said.

This was Santa’s third year visiting the kids just before Christmas. The rest of the year he is known as Bill Valcoure of Concordia. His elf helper is more often known as Lois Lervold, who works in the Sisters of St. Joseph’s Neighborhood Initiatives office.

What a special joy, the children are delighted, not one feared dear Santa.

I am so glad that Santa knows who the good kids are: all the N-2-N kiddos.
