Sisters Welcome Guests Back to Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser at the Motherhouse

The Motherhouse was a hub of activity as preparations were made for the annual Spaghetti Dinner. This year’s event felt extra special. Not only did it fall on St. Patrick’s Day, but it was the first time guests were welcomed into the building for the Spaghetti Dinner since it was sidelined by COVID-19 in 2019.
The pandemic forced a cancellation that year, and after a pivot and many changes, the fundraiser became a drive-thru event for the next four. The silent auction became an online auction, and the raffle drawing was done live on Facebook.
The dinner was still a successful fundraiser for the Sisters’ ministries, improving with each year, but everyone was excited to return to the in-person event. There’s something to be said about face-to-face interaction with those who give their support so generously.

All departments were involved in planning the event to ensure that everything would run smoothly. Tables were set up in the auditorium, decorated with fun St. Patrick’s Day decor and placemats, as were the tables in the dining room and guest dining room. Sisters and volunteers from the community were assigned specific tasks and shifts to keep things running smoothly.
Some of the elements from the past four years were incorporated into the return of the dinner, such as the online auction conducted by Hansen Auction in Beloit, Kansas. Shoppers had several days to look at and bid on over 100 items from the comfort of their homes. A variety of unique goods were offered, including sports paraphernalia, jewelry, art, kitchen items, and floral arrangements.

Many different baskets were popular items, including some Easter baskets for the kids.
The dietary staff worked hard to serve a hot, delicious meal of spaghetti with red sauce, green beans, and a garlic bread stick to over 300 people! This year included an extra special treat of a homemade egg roll prepared by our Sisters from Vietnam. The meal was finished off with an ice cream for dessert. The building was quickly filled with laughter and conversation as hungry people filled the rooms and shared the tables. There was an opportunity to take home various baked goods made by Sisters and employees in the bake sale, including cinnamon rolls, pies, breads, and cookies. There was even beautiful, soft piano music in the auditorium, played by R. Michael Owens.

The event concluded with the always popular raffle drawing, which was live-streamed on Facebook.
The 2024 Spaghetti Dinner successfully brought friends, neighbors, and Sisters together again to share a meal, and support of each other. Over $14,000 was raised to continue the missions of The Sisters of St. Joseph in the love of God and Neighbor without distinction. The Sisters couldn’t continue their good work without the support of you, their dear neighbors, and extend a heartfelt thank you!
