The Sisters of St. Joseph of Concordia and students from CJSHS Collaborate on an Earth Day Clean Up

Monday, April 22, was Earth Day, and it was a day of partnership between The Sisters of St. Joseph, students enrolled in the JAG (Jobs After Graduation) classes led by instructor Chrissy Henderson, and some National Honor Society students.

The Sisters Ecological Committee provided trash bags, disposable gloves, snacks, and drinks, and the students provided strength in numbers to clean up an area of town that had accumulated a lot of trash and recycling in the ditches. Many bags of garbage were collected, and many bags of aluminum cans were gathered separately to be recycled.

The area is located on the edge of town, so the Cloud County Highway Department agreed to contribute to the effort by picking up all of the trash and recyclables collected for the day.

The students arrived in 4 different groups during their class time for the day and made quick work of the clean-up. They were so thorough that the final group of the day needed another project. They went to the Motherhouse to clean up the trash that had blown into the evergreen trees on the grounds.

These students worked hard and made a positive impact on our community. The Sisters are so thankful for the student’s hard work and hope that a positive effect was made on the kids who helped and that they will encourage others to take care of the Earth, not just on Earth Day but every day.
